HIV impacts people of all genders, races, sexualities, ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles. People across Canada living with HIV and AIDS lead diverse and full lives.
However, people living with HIV and AIDS may still experience unfair treatment due to their actual, or suspected HIV status. Most often, HIV-related stigma arises from fear and ignorance due to lack of education. Stigma stands in the way of access to crucial prevention, treatment and care options for people living with HIV. This fear also silences the voices of people who need support the most from their communities, and stands in the way of our progress towards ending HIV in Canada.
