“The first World AIDS Day was 32 years ago, longer than I have been alive. As a kid, I remember seeing it on posters in school or in the pages of magazines, but honestly, I never really knew what it meant.

It weighs heavy on me, that it took me becoming HIV-positive to educate myself on the history of HIV, the accomplishments of HIV research and advocacy to date, and how much further we must go to end HIV and AIDS.

This year, I look at World AIDS Day with a fresh set of eyes and hope to encourage everyone to learn one new piece of information on HIV/AIDS. Education is the most powerful tool we have to end stigma and create a positive place for all."
